ON THE ROAD: National Energy Improvement Fund (NEIF) Heads to the Midwest! Takeaways from the Midwest Energy Solutions Conference 2025

The National Energy Improvement Fund (NEIF) hit the road last week – in route to Chicago, Illinois, for the 2025 Midwest Energy Solutions (MES) Conference.

Matthew Brown, NEIF Co-Chair and Managing Member, along with Jensen Handwork, Senior Director of Program Development, represented NEIF at the annual summit hosted by the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA).

This year’s conference, convening from January 28 through January 30, garnered the participation of MEEA’s key stakeholders including utility companies, program implementers, contractors, policy and advocacy groups, among others. The primary goal of the meeting is to advance energy efficiency initiatives in the Midwest, which is achieved through various networking opportunities and presentations from industry leaders.

NEIF’s main takeaways from the three-day event?

As an energy efficiency lender that makes impact on a national scale, NEIF was able to strengthen existing partnerships already established in Midwestern states. NEIF had the ability to meet face-to-face with longstanding program partners, giving way to valuable discussions for future growth and relationship building.

NEIF also had the opportunity to meet and connect with potential new partners in the Midwest, networking with leaders in utilities, green banks, and state governments. As NEIF looks to expand its reach in providing energy efficiency and electrification financing to the region, the conference provided insight into current market trends, program updates, and pertinent policy updates.

All in all, NEIF is grateful for its experience and thanks all event organizers, sponsors, and participants for putting together this year’s MES Conference! We look forward to building off the important discussions and ideas shared, and are hopeful to expand our programmatic and lending footprint in the Midwest.
